Whittier is an easy 60 mile drive southeast from Anchorage, with lots to see on the way. The 26 Glacier Cruise and Glacier Quest Cruise can be booked as "cruise only" if you plan to drive your own car or are using a rental car. Please allow time for summer road construction and sightseeing. See our travel chart for the time and distance according to Google maps.

The Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel is North Americas longest shared tunnel in North America. The tunnel provides one way service to Whittier on an alternating schedule. We recommend taking the 10:30 am tunnel for the 26 Glacier Cruise and the 11:30 am tunnel for the Glacier Quest Cruise.   • Whittier Tunnel charges $12 round trip for standard vehicles
  • Limited parking is available in the Cliffside Marina lot for $12
  • Additional parking is available in the Public Lot for $7 per car.

Alaska Railroad Glacier Discovery

Ride aboard a piece of Alaska's history. The Alaska Railroad was built in 1915 to transport supplies from the port of Seward to interior Alaska. Get a backyard view of Alaska's neighborhoods as you depart Anchorage toward Turnagain Arm to travel along the waters edge, allowing for an amazing view of the dramatic tides found in this region of the world. Local guides aboard the train will point out sites along the way through the glacially carved Portage Valley. You will travel through North Americas longest shared tunnel on your way to Whittier, where your glacier cruise adventure awaits! Our cruise dock is just across the street from the Railroad Depot.
